ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENT The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday February 17. It is a day of fast and abstinence – all Catholics including children are to abstain from meat. Adult Catholics (under 65, unless sick) to also limit themselves to one full meal, two lighter meals and nothing between meals. Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament, Virginia, at 06h00, 08h30 and 18h00, and at Star of the Sea, Umhlanga, at 17h30. A Service of the Word and distribution of ashes will take place at 11h00

at Blessed Sacrament in the courtyard. A collection for Archbishop’s Discretionary Fund at all Masses.


THE YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST. In celebration of the Year of the Eucharist, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the church at Blessed Sacrament every Friday afternoon from 16h00 – 17h00 (with the exception of public holidays) until September 12, 2021.

ST DOMINIC’S RETREAT CENTRE will be offering two 6-day Online Retreats in daily life 13 - 20 March and 22 - 29 May 2021. These Online Retreats are specifically geared towards the laity who are involved in very busy lives and perhaps cannot even afford to ‘come away’ and enjoy the silence of our Retreat Centre. Lord Jesus Christ, during your earthly ministry, at your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now in the midst of the global pandemic, that we may experience your healing love.


Give leaders of nations and communities the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks.


Grant to all peoples the grace to respect the measures suggested that may curtail the spread of this virus, and health, strength and courage to doctors, nurses and other health-care workers.

We ask this in your Holy name. Amen.
